Why I choose to learn Japanese

I want to learn Japanese because I love contemporary Japanese literature and films. I love reading works by Murakami Haruki, Nanae Aoyama and many other authors. Japanese films are also my favorite, since they often build upon a simple plot, but explore it in great depth. One film that I really enjoy is about the process of making a dictionary by a group people, which sounds like a really boring topic, but is somehow presented in a very entertaining and inspiring way.

I am also interested in the mentality of the Japanese people and their culture, which is in a way reflected in the Japanese language itself. Despite the similarities of the Chinese and Japanese cultures, there are also fundamental differences, which appeal to me a lot.
